Fishing tournament this weekend

The Rail Gunner Chapter of the United States Field Artillery Association is hosting the fifth annual Charles B. Allen Memorial Bass Tournament on Saturday at Dana Peak Park in Stillhouse Hollow Lake.

Showtime at the park is at 5:30 a.m. for registration. Boats begin launching at 7 a.m. The fish weight-ins are at 2 p.m.

The tournament honors Brig. Gen. Charles B. Allen who died in a helicopter crash in 2004 during a training mission. Allen’s favorite hobby was fishing.

Day 1: On the ground in South Korea with Ironhorse soldiers

After 20 hours of travel, by plane and bus, I finally made it to Camp Casey, South Korea with the remainder of Fort Hood’s 1st Brigade Combat Team soldiers. For the next several days, I will be following the mission and daily lives of Ironhorse troopers as they begin a nine-month rotation in the land of the morning calm.
