Boot collection: Fort Hood Fisher House is collecting 3,500 pairs of combat boots to honor service members killed in combat since 2001. The boots will line the route of the Remembrance Run on Nov. 1. The 17 killed in the Nov. 5, 2009, and the April 2 post shootings, also will be remembered. Drop off donations at Old Navy in Harker Heights, The Texas Outpost in Copperas Cove, on post Green Beans coffee locations and Fisher House. The Fisher House asks donors to lace up the boots individually and place a small empty water bottle upside-down in each one. Small American flags also are welcome. Roller Derby Recreation League: Come out and join the Fort Hood Hell on Wheels All Girl Roller Derby Recreation League. The league is free to join and is open to female DOD ID card holders age 16 and older. Those younger than 18 must have a legal guardian present at all times. Skaters are required to provide their own equipment. Youth Sports and Fitness Fall Sports sign-up: Enroll youth from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ages 3 to 5 can sign up for football and soccer, and ages 6 to 13 can play football, soccer and cheerleading from September to November. Aug. 16: Play a two-person scramble. Register on-site from 8 to 8:45 a.m. Shotgun start at 9 a.m. Cost is $50 per participant, mulligans and lunch included.
Aug. 22: Play the Phantom Warrior Scramble for $35 per person, with the option to purchase mulligans for an additional $5 per person. Teams must consist of three players from the same division, directorate, battalion, brigade, company or branch. Additional player may be whomever the team desires. Shotgun start at noon, and on-site registration begins at 10:30 a.m.
Aug. 30-31: Play the Club Championship. On-site registration from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m., shotgun start at 8 a.m. Cost is $125 per person plus applicable daily green fees and cart fees. Considered the premier tournament of the year, this 36-hole individual stroke play tournament is flighted after the first day. An awards dinner for players and their guests is on the final day. Winners receive an etched glass trophy with their names engraved on it.
