After spending three months in Hawaii earlier this year, Brandon Truesdale learned the basics of the state’s culture and diet. As developmental chef at Fort Hood, Truesdale is bringing that knowledge to the installation during an authentic Hawaiian luau for military adults Saturday at Legends Pub.

“Our marketing program saw that we haven’t had an opportunity to promote an event (featuring) different cultures. So to begin that, we decided to go with a Hawaiian luau,” Truesdale said. “The preparation I’m doing is as close to authentic as you can possible get.”

The event will feature an authentic Hawaiian luau feast with island favorites, including specialty drinks and a juicy and flavorful kalua pig, which is traditionally prepared using lava rocks for heat.

The event will also feature live performances, including a Polynesian hula dance show and a fire throwing display by members of Killeen’s Baila Pacifica Entertainment. There will be music, food, drinks, limbo and hula hoop competitions and access to a pool outside the venue.

“We wanted to provide the Fort Hood community with a social event, while showcasing the traditions of the islands,” Truesdale said.
