Get wild with Fort Hood Officers’ Spouses’ Club

Put on cowboy boots and denim and kick up your heels Friday with the Fort Hood Officers’ Spouses’ Club’s 28th annual Wild West Night at Club Hood.

The event is open to the public, ages 18 and older.

This year, the club has a special treat for guests: A concert by “The Voice” season four contestant Holly Tucker of Waco. A country music artist, Tucker placed sixth in the singing competition in 2013.

“She supports our military. I’m excited to see her,” said Jennifer Vroegindewey, publicity liaison and chairperson of the event.

Along with the concert, highlights include a Texas Hold ’em tournament and live and silent auctions. The tournament starts at 6 p.m., with a $40 buy-in fee. Interested participants can register in advance or at the door.

The spouses’ club is bringing even more of Vegas to Fort Hood with blackjack and roulette tables open all evening.

The silent auction will feature gift baskets donated by various units.

Guests can enjoy a Texas-sized baked potato bar, along with drinks available for purchase. Nearly 200 tickets have been sold as of this week. Last year, the event garnered more than $27,000.

“All the money goes back to the community,” Vroegindewey said, referring to the club’s grant and scholarship fund.

In recent years, the club has given out more than $70,000 in scholarships and grants to local charities. Tickets to Wild Wild West Night are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. To purchase a ticket, go to wildwestnight.wordpress.com.
