Football fans at Fort Hood will get their chance to see a Rocket up close this weekend.

Former Notre Dame star and NFL wide receiver Raghib “Rocket” Ismail will be at the Clear Creek Main Exchange from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday then at the Warrior Way Exchange from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Last year, Ismail signed photographs and memorabilia for football fans during a November visit to Fort Hood.

Ismail last played professionally during the 2001 season and now travels to military establishments across Texas to visit with soldiers.

“Rocket” played nine seasons in the NFL with the Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders, Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys.

He had 363 receptions, 5,295 yards and 28 touchdowns receiving in his career.

Ismail helped the Panthers make it to the 1996 NFC Championship Game in only their second year of existence before losing to eventual Super Bowl champion Green Bay.

He was a highly touted player coming out of Notre Dame. The 1990 Heisman Trophy runner-up helped the Fighting Irish win a national championship in 1988.

The College Football News named him to the list of the Top 100 Greatest College Football Players of All-Time list.

Ismail played for the Cowboys for three seasons and helped the team make the playoffs in 1999.

That season, he set career records in receptions (80) and receiving yards (1,097) and also had six receiving touchdowns and one rushing score. His career best receiving touchdown total was eight with the Panthers in 1998.

Ismail also was a part of the 1993 Raiders team that lost to the Buffalo Bills in the divisional playoffs.
