More than 3,000 soldiers and family members attended Fort Hood’s National Night Out event at Hood Stadium last week.

Fort Hood Family Housing, along with other Fort Hood support organizations, host the event each year to encourage the community to interact with the people who provide services to them at Fort Hood.

Soldiers from different Fort Hood units helped guests enjoy the free event on Oct. 6 by serving them pizza, playing basketball, watching over weapons displays and overseeing more activities throughout the night.

According to Community Services Manager Nieomi King, Fort Hood Family Housing took over this project in 2001 when the post housing was privatized. King was pleased that the event continues to grow, especially since hosting it the last few years at Hood Stadium.

Kendra Gordon, living her first year at Fort Hood, was not expecting to see so many families and activities at the event. She summed up the fun evening at Hood Stadium with her children in one word, “Awesome.”
