The United as ONE Tour will visit Fort Hood for the first time Friday to perform a gospel concert featuring numerous award-winning artists.

“We’re very excited about hosting it,” said Wilson Mathews III, public relations coordinator for Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. “All the artists are young gospel performers, and they have all won all sorts of awards and accolades.”

Dallas native Shucky Ducky will host the event. The actor and comedian, whose real name is Cecil Armstrong, has appeared on “Def Comedy Jam.” Gospel singer James Fortune & FIYA is among the performers. He is a three-time Stellar Award winner and was nominated for BET and Soul Train awards. His latest single, “Hold On,” featuring Monica and Fred Hammond, is in the top five on the Billboard gospel chart and top 15 on the R&B chart.

Other performers include Kierra Sheard, a Grammy nominated and Stellar award-winning recording artist and songwriter; VaShawn Mitchell, a six-time Stellar Award winner; and Grammy nominated recording artist Zacardi Cortez, whose first single from his debut album, “One More Time,” is No. 5 on Billboard’s gospel chart.

The concert features both new- and old-school gospel tracks with cameos from Donnie McClurkin and Lalah Hathaway.

Wilson said his department wanted to bring the tour to post as part of the Army’s initiative to provide more entertainment for military families.

Fort Hood is a large community and we want to provide something different for people of all demographics, Wilson said. “We’re hoping people will want to come because we’re offering quality entertainment. People are definitely going to get their money’s worth.”

Posted: February 25, 2016

After 20 hours of travel, by plane and bus, I finally made it to Camp Casey, South Korea with the remainder of Fort Hood’s 1st Brigade Combat Team soldiers. For the next several days, I will be following the mission and daily lives of Ironhorse troopers as they begin a nine-month rotation in the land of the morning calm.
