October

Electronic waste month: Throughout the month, personal electronic waste can be recycled in containers located at the Clear Creek Commissary and in the parking lot across from Chili’s on TJ Mills Boulevard. Recyclable electronics include televisions, stereo equipment, kitchen appliances, cell phones, batteries, laptops and computer equipment, lawnmowers and DVDs. Personal property only. The center is at 4626 72nd St. Hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and the second Saturday of each month. Call 254-287-2336.

Through Oct. 30

Halloween drawing: Enter the drawing at Petals and Bloom at the Clear Creek Main Exchange for a chance to win the Forever Fall Bouquet valued at $47.95. Drawing at noon Oct. 30. Call 254-532-5066.

Through Nov. 1

Flu shots: Veterans can get their seasonal flu vaccinations at the walk-in flu vaccination clinic at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System in Temple or by request at any scheduled visit with their primary care physician. The vaccination is free for all veterans enrolled in the health care system. A drive-thru clinic at the Temple campus is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 29-30 in the valet parking area. The Temple walk-in clinic is in the waiting area for the laboratory check in/travel pay from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the Teague Tower, Building 163.

Through May 23

WINGS support group: Group meets from 5 to 9:30 p.m. on the third and fourth Friday of each month at the Spiritual Fitness Center, Building 12012, in partnership with the Fort Hood Chaplains’ Office and the Family Advocacy Program. Free potluck dinner, drinks and group material, as well as free childcare. Call Sandy and Dean Fulkerson at 281-904-7737.

Friday

Preschool Story Time: Enjoy stories, songs and a craft on a weekly theme from 10 to 11 a.m. in Room 156 of Casey Memorial Library annex. Day cares and home-schoolers are welcome.

Saturday

Science Saturday: Learn about the human body through a fact finding scavenger hunt between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the children’s room at the Casey Memorial Library.

Children’s Halloween Bingo: Come to the Community Events and Bingo Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Building 50012 on Clear Creek Road, to play the frightfully fun game of bingo. For $5 per child (ages 2-12), bingo players can receive lunch, goodies and door prizes. To ensure every child has a seat, please limit additional adult guests. Call 254-532-9253 or 254-532-9263.

WINGS PTSD workshop: Hosted by Sandy and Dean Fulkerson from 9 a.m. to noon at KPLE-TV Studio, 502 E. Elms Road, Killeen. Call KPLE at 254-554-3683 to secure seating or email deanfulkerson@att.net. This workshop is free to all retired and military families facing combat trauma symptoms, and to first responders. Light refreshments will be served. A book signing will follow for “Bread Crumbs on Purpose.”

Halloween at Hertz’s “Trunk a Treat” Spooktacular: from 6 to 8 p.m. in the parking lots of buildings 135 and 136 on 761st Tank Battalion Avenue. Fun with games and candy for the entire family. Call 254-532-9065.

Monday

Pink Heals Tour: Fire engines will be in the Clear Creek Main Exchange from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to promote breast cancer awareness.

Tuesday

Gamer’s delight: Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed 4 midnight release at the Clear Creek Main Store’s GameStop. Preorder now and be the first in line when GameStop opens at 10 p.m. to pick up your game at 12:01 a.m. Call 254-532-9806.

Oct. 31

Discount: Food orders made with a MILITARY STAR® Card at Fort Hood Exchange-operated restaurants will be discounted 20 percent.

Halloween Costume Party: Adults can enter the Halloween Costume Party from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Backbone Lounge, Building 194 on 37th Street. Come out to enticing drink specials, a DJ spinning the greatest hits, entertaining games and more. The grand prize of a 50-inch plasma television will be awarded for the best costume. This party and contest are free to enter and open to all, age 18 and older. Call 254-287-3770.

Nov. 2

Family and MWR Warehouse Sale: Are you looking for an additional office desk or chair? Maybe you need some sports equipment, gym equipment, furniture, cribs, electronics or even some restaurant equipment. Come in and take home some property at the Family and MWR Warehouse Sale at 8 a.m. at Santa Fe Road (across from the Phantom Warrior Lanes, inside the fence area) Buildings 9535, 9536 and 9538. This event will be open to the public. Payment must be made day of sale in cash, MWR card or major credit card. MWR card cannot be increased. No Discover or Star cards. Nov. 4

Anniversary Bingo: Celebrate the 17th anniversary of the Community Events and Bingo Center. Doors open at 4 p.m. and bingo begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person until Nov. 4, when they will become $85 per person. Ticket includes 14-game package, 10 free games and dinner. There will be limited seating, so advanced ticket purchase is suggested. This event is open to all DOD ID cardholders and their guests ($5 guest fee.) The Community Events and Bingo Center is on Clear Creek Road, Building 50012 behind AAFES gas station. Call 254-532-9263.

Nov. 7

The Society of American Military Engineers will host a golf tournament at noon at the Courses of Clear Creek. Play in four-person teams for $30 a person. Proceeds go toward a scholarship fund. Send your team’s names to Maj. Scott Swilley at scott.f.swilley.mil@mail.mil by Nov. 1. Registration and payment begins at 11 a.m. the day of the event.

ACAP events

Change to hours: The ACAP center is now open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.

The next Monday Mini Job Fair is from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Oveta Culp Hobby Soldier and Family Readiness Center.
