Garrison Bowling Tournament Fundraiser: Four-person teams will compete in 3-6-9 format for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The tournament is $20 per person and open to DOD ID-card holders. A portion of proceeds goes toward the Garrison Barbecue on Oct. 17. To register call 254-287-3424.

Friday

Preschool Story Time: Enjoy stories, songs and a craft on a weekly theme from 10 to 11 a.m. in Room 156 of Casey Memorial Library annex. Day cares and homeschoolers are welcome.

Operation Rising Star Finals: The competition that determines the best voice at Fort Hood. Register now for your chance to win the Ultimate Recording Music Experience — record, mix and master an album with studio professionals. $850 in prizes to be awarded locally. The competition is at 7 p.m. at the Phantom Warrior Center and is open to active duty, Reserve, National Guard or military family members, 18 years and older with a valid DOD ID card. Operation Rising Star is an individual singing competition. To register, stop by the BOSS Office, Building 9212 at Old Ironsides Avenue. Call 254-287-6116.

III Corps Express Store Tailgating Party: from 5 to 7 p.m. Enjoy barbecue, tastings and giveaways.

Friday through May 23

WINGS support group: Group meets at the Spiritual Fitness Center Building 12012 from 5 to 9:30 p.m. on the 3rd and 4th Fridays of each month, in partnership with the Fort Hood Chaplains’ Office and the Family Advocacy Program. Free potluck dinner, drinks and group material, as well as free childcare. Call Sandy and Dean Fulkerson at 281-904-7737.

Saturday

Math Saturday: at the Casey Memorial Library. Learn about graphing and use a pack of M&Ms to make a graph anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the children’s room.

Welcome Home Celebration: All active-duty soldiers, veterans of all eras and their immediate families are invited to the fifth annual Welcome Home Celebration from 4 to 8 p.m. at Carl Levin Park, 400 Miller’s Crossing, Harker Heights. Saturday’s event includes free food, fun, door prizes and a variety of entertainment for the whole family. A job fair featuring employers wanting to hire veterans is planned as well as booths with information about VA health programs, benefits and colleges and universities. For those veterans who have not signed up for VA health care, a VA registration booth will be available. Veterans should bring their DD-214 to complete the process. NFL Sunday Ticket: Each Sunday, during football season, go to Backbone NCO Lounge, Building 194 on 37th Street, and watch your favorite NFL teams play for free. The facility boasts 14, 42-inch TV screens, free popcorn as well as assorted snack foods and drinks available for purchase. Open to everyone 18 years of age and older. Call 254-532-5073.

Oct. 3

Kids Mini Trooper Demo: from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Military Clothing and Sales.

Oct. 4

Oktoberfest 2013: from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Sportsmen’s Center Pavilion, Building 1937 on 53rd Street. Oktoberfest will feature delicacies and a variety of beers, available for purchase, along with an animal adoption fair, tailgating games, live music and a multitude of activities including the Beer Stein Strongman Competition. Children’s activities include a pumpkin patch, face painting and arts and crafts. This event is free and open to all ages. Call 254-288-7835.

Oktoberfest: The Class Six will host a celebration from 4 to 7 p.m. Enjoy free brats and taste the seasonal selections for fall.

Still Serving: Col. Cork, author of “Sir, I Can Explain,” will be at the Clear Creek Main Exchange from 11:30 to 5 p.m. Oct. 7.
