Summer reading: The Casey Memorial Library has an online reading program for adults, teens and children. Those who read 10 books or three hours and log their reading online will earn a prize. Register at usarmy.evanced.info/casey/sr/homepage.asp.
Summer Reading Program: Enjoy an animal-related story and activities from 9 to 10 a.m. as part of the Paws to Read summer program at the Casey Memorial Library. Ages 0 to 17 can participate.
Thursday Music Mix: From 3 to 8 p.m., enjoy pool, shuffleboard, popcorn and finger foods on covered patio decks and listen to a live DJ at Backbone NCO Lounge, Building 194 on 37th Street. The event is free and open to ages 18 and older. Call 254-532-5073.
Friday afternoon movie: Watch a movie from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Casey Memorial Library’s room 156 in the library annex.
Military Officers Association of America: Active-duty and retired officers of all services are welcome to the noon meeting at Yank Sing Chinese Restaurant, 1705 E. Central Texas Expressway, Killeen. Central Texas College Chancellor Tom Klincar is the guest speaker. Buffet line begins at 11:30. Cost is $9.50.
Free movie screening: Watch “Transformers: Age of Extinction” at Palmer Theater. Doors open at noon and movie starts at 2 p.m. Pick up tickets at Palmer Theater, Clear Creek Main Exchange or Warrior Way Specialty Store. Seating open to nonticket holders 30 minutes prior to showtime.
Paws for Reading Program: Children are invited to come out and read with a therapy dog from 11 a.m. to noon at the Casey Memorial Library. Reading to a dog is a fun experience and it builds the child’s confidence. Children must pre-register for the program. Call 254-287-4921 to sign up.
Fatigues to Fabulous Fashion Show: Clear Creek Main Store will host the event beginning at 1 p.m. in the Clear Creek Main Exchange Food Court.
LGBT Pride Observance: A postwide observance of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month will be at 1:30 p.m. at Club Hood. The guest speak is Brig. Gen. Tammy Smith, U.S. Army Reserve deputy chief of staff, the first openly gay female general officer.
Independence Day Celebration: A fireworks display and other festivities are set from 6 to 10 p.m. at Hood Stadium. A DJ and two 1st Cavalry Division Bands will perform. Various food and beverage vendors will sell food and drink. Capping off the events’ activities will be a dazzling, 30-minute fireworks display choreographed to patriotic music. This event is free and open to the public. Individuals requiring special accommodations due to disability should call 254-286-5342. Prohibited items: explosive weapons, firearms, knives, clubs, brass knuckles, glass containers (except baby bottles), pets, alcohol and fireworks. Permitted items: strollers, small coolers (for baby formula), camelbacks (will be searched), umbrellas, blankets, lawn chairs and small wagons.
Fort Hood’s Army Career and Alumni Program will host a Monday Mini Job Fair from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 30 and July 14 at Oveta Culp Hobby Center Soldier and Family Readiness Center.
The Fort Hood ACAP Mega Job Fair is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Club Hood.
