Summer reading: The Casey Memorial Library has an online reading program for adults, teens and children. Those who read 10 books or three hours and log their reading online will earn a prize. Register at usarmy.evanced.info/casey/sr/homepage.asp.

BLORA Ranch Kid’s Camps: Horses are fascinating and horse camp is one of the best sources for growth, self confidence and fun available to a young person. Camp offers horseback riding lessons, trail riding, cane-pole fishing, water activities, crafts and goat roping. Cost is $95 per day or $260 for three days. BLORA Ranch staff is background-checked, CPR and first aid certified. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 254-681-9788.


Thursday Music Mix: From 3 to 8 p.m., enjoy pool, shuffleboard, popcorn and finger foods on covered patio decks and listen to a live DJ at Backbone NCO Lounge, Building 194 on 37th Street. The event is free and open to ages 18 and older. Call 254-532-5073.


Friday afternoon movie: Watch a movie from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Casey Memorial Library’s room 156 in the library annex.

Day 1: On the ground in South Korea with Ironhorse soldiers

After 20 hours of travel, by plane and bus, I finally made it to Camp Casey, South Korea with the remainder of Fort Hood’s 1st Brigade Combat Team soldiers. For the next several days, I will be following the mission and daily lives of Ironhorse troopers as they begin a nine-month rotation in the land of the morning calm.
