Palmer Theater: “Planes” will show at 2 p.m. and in 3D at 6 p.m. Sunday, and at 7 p.m. Aug. 14-15.

Hood Howdy: Fort Hood’s bi-annual event — a newcomers information and mini career fair — is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Club Hood, Building 5764 at 24th Street at Tank Destroyer Boulevard. Meet area chambers of commerce, more than 100 area businesses and agencies, and enjoy door prizes and refreshments. Check out the FMWR room for a chance to win an iPod Touch. Punt, Pass and Kick Competition: Fort Hood Family Housing and Youth Sports and Fitness host the free NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Competition, a program of Fuel up to Play 60, from 9 a.m. to noon at Hood Stadium. Boys and girls ages 6 to 15, come out and put your skills to the test as you compete to take your game to the next level. Call 254-288-3770.

Sept. 6

USO Yellow Ribbon Gala : Tickets are now on sale at http://usoforthoodyellowribbongala.eventbrite.com/. Tickets are $50 and all proceeds stay at Fort Hood. The gala begins at 7 p.m. at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center and features singer Tony Orlando and the 10-piece show band, Matchmaker. Day 1: On the ground in South Korea with Ironhorse soldiers

After 20 hours of travel, by plane and bus, I finally made it to Camp Casey, South Korea with the remainder of Fort Hood’s 1st Brigade Combat Team soldiers. For the next several days, I will be following the mission and daily lives of Ironhorse troopers as they begin a nine-month rotation in the land of the morning calm.
