WINGS support group: Group meets at the Spiritual Fitness Center, Building 12012, from 5 to 9:30 p.m. on the third and fourth Friday of each month, in partnership with the Fort Hood Chaplains’ Office and the Family Advocacy Program. Free potluck dinner, drinks and group material, as well as free childcare. Call 281-904-7737.

Every Thursday

Support Group: Open to any kind of trauma survivors and caregivers. Hosted by Darnall Department of Ministry and Pastoral Care, the group meets from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Darnall chapel. Call Chaplain S.R. Handy at 254-288-8849 or 288-8850.


Preschool Story Time: Enjoy stories, songs and a craft on a weekly theme from 10 to 11 a.m. in Room 156 of Casey Memorial Library annex. Day care and home-schooled children are welcome.


NAF Vehicle Auction: Come in and bid on a vehicle at the nonappropriated funds vehicle auction at 8 a.m. at the LZ Phantom Storage Lot on Clarke Road. Get a registration card for $1, which includes a bidder card and auction listing. Registration and previews of the vehicles are available at the LZ Phantom Storage Lot on Clarke Road, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 24-28. About 100 abandoned and NAF vehicles will be auctioned to the highest bidder. Winning bids are legally binding and must be paid at the auction. Winning bidders will be allowed to remove vehicles through the following week. The doors open at 7 a.m. Saturday and bidding begins at 8 a.m., ending when all items are sold. This auction is open to the public. Cash, checks with proper ID and major credit cards will be accepted. (No Discover or Star cards). All vehicles will be sold “AS IS, WHERE IS, NO WARRANTY.” All sales are final. Tow trucks and trailers use Clarke Road entrance. Call 254-287-5865.


Mardi Gras Celebration: Hosted at the T.J. Mills Food Court from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be decorations, a Wii Bowling contest and Mardi Gras-themed coloring sheets. There will be two family movie night basket drawings. Customers are asked to wear their favorite NFL Jersey to enter the drawing. Enjoy specials at Burger King, WingZone, Captain D’s and Charley’s.

Ladies’ Day: Ladies get twilight green fees and 10 percent off in-stock women’s apparel purchases at the Courses of Clear Creek.

Just Stressed Out: Support group for female spouses or caregivers of active-duty or service members with PTSD, active-duty female service members or veterans with PTSD. Meets from 6 to 7 p.m. at 717 N. Fourth St., Suite B in Killeen. Park in the Bell County Human Services lot. Contact Maureen Jouett at mail@bringeveryoneinthezone.org.

March 12

Subway Grand Opening: T.J. Mills Food Court will celebrate its new Subway Restaurant. Come out and meet Jared Fogle from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will also be door prizes and cake.

March 14

BLORA Games Paintball Tournament: “May the Odds Be Ever In Your Favor” at noon at the Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area Paintball Course. The tournament is open to ages 13 years old and older. Call 254-287-2523 to register in advance or register on-site from 8 to 11 a.m. BLORA markers and paint will be the only markers and paint allowed. The cost is $45 for teams of 2 or $25 for an individual. (Individuals will be randomly assigned to a tournament partner.) There will be specialty items such as hand grenades, land mines, sidearms and archery bows available for purchase/rent. Prizes include annual and six-month paintball course memberships, free paint and more! The tournament director is Chris Graham. Call 254-287-2523 or 254-535-3443.

March 15

Shamrock Sprint 5k Run/Walk: Race begins at 8 a.m. at Harvey Functional Fitness Center. It is free and open to all.

Monday Mini Job Fairs will be 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Oveta Culp Hobby Soldier and Family Readiness Center on Monday and March 10.

Day 1: On the ground in South Korea with Ironhorse soldiers

After 20 hours of travel, by plane and bus, I finally made it to Camp Casey, South Korea with the remainder of Fort Hood’s 1st Brigade Combat Team soldiers. For the next several days, I will be following the mission and daily lives of Ironhorse troopers as they begin a nine-month rotation in the land of the morning calm.
