Thursday

The Book Club: Meets from 6 to 7 p.m. to discuss “When She Woke” by Hillary Jordan at a study table in the Casey Memorial Library. Copies of the book are available at the reference desk. Call 254-287-2716.

Friday

Preschool Story Time: Enjoy stories, songs and a craft on a weekly theme from 10 to 11 a.m. in Room 156 of Casey Memorial Library annex. Day cares and homeschoolers are welcome.

Fridays in September

Operation Rising Star: The competition that determines the best voice at Fort Hood. Register now for your chance to win the Ultimate Recording Music Experience — record, mix and master an album with studio professionals. $850 in cash prizes to be awarded locally. The competition is at 7 p.m. at the Phantom Warrior Center and is open to active duty, Reserve, National Guard or military family members, 18 years of age and older with a valid DOD ID card. Operation Rising Star is an individual singing competition. Registration is open and is first come, first served. To register, stop by the BOSS Office, Building 9212 at Old Ironsides Avenue. Saturday

“The One” Watch Party: Mayweather vs. Alvarez: Enjoy the boxing match of the season without having to fight the hassle of off-post venues. Join Legends Pub in watching Floyd Mayweather Jr. take on newcomer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and will be open to all 18 years and older. For a $10 cover charge, you can enjoy this incredible fight as well as free finger foods (while supplies last) and covered patio decks with outdoor TVs and ceiling fans. Duathlon: The annual Duathlon is at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area. The race kicks off at 8 a.m. and includes two 3.1-mile runs and 12-mile bike ride portion. NFL Sunday Ticket: Each Sunday, during football season, come out to Backbone NCO Lounge, Building 194 on 37th Street, and watch your favorite NFL teams play for free. The facility boasts 14 42-inch TV screens for your viewing pleasure, free popcorn as well as assorted snack foods and drinks available for purchase. Open to everyone 18 years of age and older. Monster Smoke Show with Vaughn Gittin Jr. will be at Warrior Way Specialty Store from noon to 4 p.m. Enter to win a chance to ride along with a Vaughn demonstration at any Exchange location.

Sept. 18

Safari Books Database Training in the Casey Memorial Library Annex, Room 155 from 2 to 3 p.m. Safari is an e-reference business and information technology library where you can search across thousands of books.

Sept. 19

Make and Take Craft Night at the Casey Memorial Library. All ages are invited to learn how to make a simple book. Come anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. in the children’s room.

Sept. 21

UFC 165 Watch Party: Watch the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between the current champion Jon Jones and No. 1 contender Alexander Gustafsson at the Backbone NCO Lounge, Building 194 on 37th Street. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and will be open to all 18 years of age and older. No cover fee. For more information, call 254-532-5073.
