Extended hours: The Health Promotions Aerobics and Skating Center extended its hours for the summer. Come out to the center, Building 324 on 37th Street, now open for open skate, every Tuesday through Friday. New Exchange Mall Ground Breaking: Army & Air Force Exchange Service will break ground on the new Exchange Mall at 11 a.m. at the corner of Clear Creek Road and Tank Destroyer Boulevard.

Casey Memorial Library Summer Reading Program: Activities for ages pre-k to 17 from 9 to 10 a.m. This week’s theme is Asia.

Movie Matinee: Join the Casey Memorial Library for “Pocahontas” from 2 to 4 p.m. in room 156 in the library annex. Popcorn and a beverage are provided.

July 4

Independence Day Celebration: Come enjoy Fort Hood’s fireworks display and Independence Day Celebration. The July 4 celebration is from 6 to 10 p.m. at Hood Stadium, located behind the Community Events and Bingo Center on Clear Creek Road. There will be a DJ spinning the hits, two 1st Cavalry Division Bands performing for the crowd — “Warrior’s Call” covering rock-n-roll hits and “Crossfire Brass Band” covering popular music. There will be various food and beverage vendors selling food and drinks. Capping off the events’ activities will be a 30-minute fireworks display choreographed to patriotic music. This event is free and open to the public. Individuals requiring special accommodations due to disability should contact (254) 286-5342. Prohibited items include explosive weapons, firearms, knives, clubs, brass knuckles, glass containers (except baby bottles), pets, alcohol and fireworks. Permitted items: strollers, small coolers (for baby formula), camelbacks (will be searched), umbrellas, blankets, lawn chairs and small wagons.

July 6

UFC 162 Watch Party: Silva vs. Weidman: Watch the UFC Middleweight Championship bout between long time titleholder Anderson Silva and top contender Chris Weidman on Backbone NCO Lounge ’s 14 42-inch flat-panel TVs, enjoy monthly drink specials and munch on free finger foods while supplies last. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the event is free and open to everyone 18 or older. The lounge is at Building 194 on 37th Street, adjoined to the Phantom Warrior Center. Call (254) 532-5073.
