Volunteer Fair

Please join us for the fourth annual volunteer fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Oveta Culp Hobby Soldier and Family Readiness Center, building 18000, Battalion Avenue. This event will have a variety of agencies in need of volunteers. Agencies will be on-hand to express the needs of their organization and link with volunteer matches. The Army Volunteer Corps staff will assist with sign up, registration and instruction of the Volunteer Manager Information System. Come join the fun and be a part of the special world of volunteering.

Southwest Airlines State Fair Classic tickets

Do you want to go to this year’s annual battle between Grambling State and Prairie View A&M? Leisure Travel Services’ (761st Tank Battalion, next to Military Clothing Sales, Building 136) is sponsoring a package deal for the Southwest Airlines State Fair Classic this weekend. The cost is $24 for a ticket to the football game and state fair. The football game starts at 6 p.m. For more information, call (254) 287-7310.

The 1st Cav Spec T’s, building 33012, will be closed. It will reopen Oct. 10 as a Blimpie.

Tuesday

The 41st Fires Brigade will host the fourth United States Field Artillery Association Rail Gunner Chapter Golf Tournament at the Courses of Clear Creek to raise money for the annual Saint Barbara’s Day Ball. The tournament is a four-man team scramble with a shotgun start of 9 a.m. Registration for the event is scheduled for 8 to 8:45 a.m. Ticket prices for E-1 to E-4 are $25. Prices for civilians, E-5 and above are $35. Price includes greens fees and cart. Individuals are permitted to enter the tournament. Individuals are assigned to teams that are unable to fill the four-man requirement. Prizes will be awarded for longest drive and closest to the pin. Oktoberfest 2012

Come out and enjoy live music, traditional beer tent, contest and fun for the entire family. The festivities kick off at 5 p.m. and will conclude at 11 p.m. in the Phantom Warrior Center Parking Lot, building 194 on 37th Street. The event is free and open to all. Activities for the kids include a pumpkin patch, face painting, arts/craft area and bounce houses. Adults can take part in several competitions and contests to include beer stein race, a strong man competition, most festive Oktoberfest costume and yodeling contest. German Band, Das Ist Lustig, will perform live. Oktoberfest provides authentic German music, food, drink, arts/crafts vendors and much more. UFC Fight Night Watch Party

Rather than face the crowds and charges of downtown venues, come out to the Backbone NCO Lounge, building 194 on 37th Street, and enjoy an evening of fights without any of the hassle. Not to mention, the convenience of being able to see these highly coveted bouts on 14 flat panel TVs. The UFC fights begin at 9 p.m., but the doors open at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to all DoD ID-card holders, 18 years of age and older. Enjoy free, shuffleboard, ping pong, pool and free finger foods (while supplies last), as well as various snack foods and drinks available for purchase. 2012 Army Digital Photo Contest

Look through your archived photos or grab your digital cameras and start shooting for that perfect shot, as the deadline is Nov. 30 in the 2012 Army Digital Photography Contest. The images will be judged in five categories:* people, place, object, military life and experimental process. There are two separate divisions:

Division I — active-duty participants

Color Digital Images Class (5 categories)

Monochrome Images Class (5 categories)

Division II — authorized MWR patrons**

Color Digital Images Class (5 categories)

Monochrome Images Class (5 categories)

First, second and third place will be awarded for each class and category of the two divisions of the contest. To enter participants must complete the online profile and submit entries between Oct. 15 and Nov. 30 at the contest website, https://apps.imcom.army.mil/apptracmain. The contest guide and entry forms are available at Apache Arts & Crafts Center, building 2337 at Tank Battalion Avenue and 62nd Street.

*Official photographs taken for service functions or in the line of duty are not eligible.

Children’s Halloween Bingo

Let’s share the joy of bingo with the little ones and watch their little faces light up as they play, win prizes and shout “BINGO!” For only $5 per child (2 to 12 years old) children can enjoy 10 games for toys, lunch, coloring books and goodie bags, all at the Community Events and Bingo Center from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. In order to ensure every child has a seat and is able play, please limit additional adult guests. Fishing for Freedom

Come out to the 2012 Fishing for Freedom Tournament at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area. Enjoy a free day of competitive fishing on one of Central Texas’ finest lakes and whoever reels in the largest fish wins a new 2013 Triton Boat. There are thousands of dollars in cash and prizes. The tournament is limited to first 300 teams. Fisherman partners will be randomly paired. The barbecue dinner will be served Oct. 19 at the Killeen Civic and Convention Center, which is free to all participants. Both boaters and soldiers are needed to participate in this worthwhile event. BLORA is located on North Nolan Road, approximately 10 miles from East Range Road. Access to the park is also possible from FM 439 and Sparta Road.
