Free Zumba classes

Classes are:

11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Abrams Physical Fitness Center

1 to 2 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Applied Fitness Center

5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Grey Wolf Physical Fitness Center

6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at West Fort Hood Physical Fitness Center

Classes are free, open to family and MWR-authorized users and subject to change. For more information, call (254) 285-5459.

Free spin classes

Class times are noon to 1 p.m. daily; 8 to 9 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Abrams Physical Fitness Center, Building 23001, 62nd Street and Support Avenue. Classes are subject to change. For more information, call (254) 287-5459.

Free yoga classes

11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Beginner yoga is 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Thursday.

Postnatal yoga is 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

AER Campaign Golf Scramble

Registration for the second annual AER Campaign Golf Scramble at the Courses of Clear Creek begins at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $45 per person with optional mulligans available for an additional charge. Teams may consist of soldiers, family members, retirees and civilians. For more information, call Teresa Gambrel at (254) 288-6330.

Fridays in April

Casey Memorial Library’s Preschool Story Time features stories and a craft on a weekly theme. Day cares and home-schooled students also are welcome. Story times are from 10 to 11 a.m. in Room 156 of the library annex, Building 3202, 72nd Street and 761st Tank Battalion Avenue.


BOSS Bass Fishing Tournament

The inaugural Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers Bass Fishing Tournament is from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nolan Lake, across from the main entrance of Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area. It costs $10 to register for the tournament, which is open to all Defense Department ID-card holders, including family members. All participants must have a Texas fishing license and a Fort Hood fishing permit. (Children 16 years old and younger are not required to have a post fishing permit.) The Book Club will meet from noon to 1 p.m. and will discuss “Les Miserables” by Victor Hugo. Bring a lunch. The club meets in Room 156 in the library annex of Casey Memorial Library, Building 3202, 72nd Street and 761st Tank Battalion Avenue. For more information, call (254) 287-2716.

Day 1: On the ground in South Korea with Ironhorse soldiers

After 20 hours of travel, by plane and bus, I finally made it to Camp Casey, South Korea with the remainder of Fort Hood’s 1st Brigade Combat Team soldiers. For the next several days, I will be following the mission and daily lives of Ironhorse troopers as they begin a nine-month rotation in the land of the morning calm.
