Clear Creek Child Development Center

The “new” Clear Creek Child Development Center is open, and with it comes the permanent closure of the original Clear Creek Child Development Center, Building 4819/4820, and the temporary closure of Comanche Child Development Center, Building 52024.

Both facilities closed March 1.

Comanche Child Development Center is undergoing a floor replacement project, which is projected to last about three to four months.

The Clear Creek Child Development Center, Building 41015 on Clear Creek Road, will provide full-day and before/after care for prekindergarten to kindergarten children attending Clarke, Oveta Culp Hobby and Duncan Elementary schools, who were previously enrolled at the original Clear Creek Child Development Center and Comanche Child Development Center.

Through Saturday

Participate in Teen Tech Week at the Casey Memorial Library, Building 3203 on 72nd Street and 761st Tank Battalion Avenue. Come in and take the texting challenge, or see if you can figure out 20 different phrases in texting language. Get them all correct and win a prize.

Friday

Ben Hogan Classic

The Ben Hogan Foundation wants to say “thank you” to soldiers and their families for their service. Register for a day of free fun and entertainment at the Courses of Clear Creek’s Ben Hogan Classic. The event includes a 10 a.m. four-person scramble (30 teams maximum), 2 p.m. junior clinic (ages 5 to 15, 125 youth maximum), prizes, dinner and a 5:30 p.m. live performance from Jolie Holliday & Band.

The event is free, but registration is required, with the exception of the concert, which is open to all DoD ID card holders. Children must be registered for the junior clinic by Monday and must have a parental guardian present at all times during the clinic.

Friday

Come out and celebrate spring at the Casey Memorial Library with our Spring Fling. There will be different stations with activities such as a ball toss, crafts, a duck pond, popcorn and a bounce house.

Fridays in March

Casey Memorial Library’s Preschool Story Time features stories and a craft on a weekly theme. Day cares and homeschoolers are also welcome. The story times are from 10 to 11 a.m. in room 156 in the library annex, Building 3202 on 72nd Street and 761st Tank Battalion Avenue.

Saturday

Dust off your Stetsons, polish your rhinestones and get ready to put a little jingle in your spurs, because Horsin’ Around at BLORA is having its first Wild West Hoedown for Spring Break.

Enjoy trail riding, barbecue and drinks, followed by a hoedown with DJ Tony Sandate (Tejano Outlaw). The all-day party kicks off with trail riding at 8 a.m., viddles served at 5:30 p.m. and boot scootin’ starts at 7 p.m.

Make your reservation today: $80 per person or $150 per couple. There will be something for everyone, including pony rides and petting zoo throughout the day for children, and door prizes throughout the night.

UFC World Welterweight Championship Watch Party

Come out to Backbone NCO Lounge and forgo the hassle of off-post venues. Watch Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz battle for the UFC World Welterweight Championship. Doors open at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to everyone 18 or older.

Enjoy free shuffleboard, ping pong, pool, popcorn and finger food.

March 22

BOSS 3-on-3 March Madness Basketball Tournament

Put together a team and get ready for the BOSS 3-on-3 March Madness Basketball Tournament from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Abrams Physical Fitness Center, Building 23001 on 62nd Street and Support Avenue.

Registration is open through Monday. Only active-duty soldiers (five players per team) may participate.

In addition to the basketball tournament, there’s also the Slam Dunk Contest or the 3-Point Shoot Out.

Mizteryo Band Performance

It’s Math Saturday at the Casey Memorial Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the children’s room. Come make tangram puzzle pieces and create new shapes.

11th annual Spring Easter Festival

Come out and meet Peter Cottontail at the 11th annual Apache Arts and Crafts Spring Easter Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Fort Hood area youth have the opportunity to create memories of a lifetime.

Other free activities include inflatables, sidewalk chalk drawings games and more. You will also have the opportunity to paint ceramic eggs, bunnies and animals, as well as take photos with the Easter bunny, get caricature drawings and wax hands for a fee.

Apache Arts and Crafts, Building 2337 on 761st Tank Battalion Avenue and 62nd Street will conduct Make and Take Crafts for parents.

New to the festival this year are three Easter bunny piñatas. Children will take turns trying to break the piñatas at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Don’t forget to bring an Easter basket to pick up candy from the piñatas.

Learn how to cut a mat to frame a photo, make a bracelet or paint a figurine. The festival will be filled with prizes, food and fun galore. Call (254) 532-2586.

Easter Sunday Brunch

Hop on down to Club Hood for an Easter Sunday Brunch. Two seatings are available, 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Children can participate in a free egg hunt and take pictures with the Easter bunny. The egg hunt will take place at 12:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. with two age groups, ages 1 to 5 and 6 to 10. BLORA Paintball Course is now open weekends. BLORA Paintball is open to all, age 10 and older. Youths age 10-17 require a guardian’s signature. The course is open Saturday and Sunday, and many holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The course may be reserved for groups on weekdays. Call (254) 287-2523.
