Army Family Action Plan submissions

Through the Army Family Action Plan, Army leaders hear your concerns and ideas and where possible, put them into an action plan for resolution. Submit ideas online at www.myarmyonesource.com or contact the Fort Hood AFAP office for information on other means by which to submit an AFAP issue. The deadline for submitting 2012 AFAP issues is Monday. For more information, contact the AFAP staff at (254) 287-2327 or usarmy.hood.imcom-fmwrc.list.ACS.AFAP@mail.mil.

Go to the Clear Creek Main Exchange operators office to sign your children up for the annual Arizona Cardinal Christmas Show. Children 5 to 13 are invited to join in the fun. The show is Dec. 14 at 5 p.m., and practice is Dec. 13 at 6 p.m.

My Army Life in Photos Contest

Army MWR has announced its first My Army Life in Photos Contest. You can win prizes by submitting your best photos of Army life. Weekly winners will be awarded for submitting photos in the following categories: HOOAH Homecomings from Nov. 10-18, Vacation Fun from Nov. 19-27, Patriotic Pets from Nov. 28 through Dec. 6 and MWR Moments from Dec. 7-15. Grand prize: complete digital camera set, $1,000 gift certificate and photo featured in an Installation Management Command, Army MWR branded campaign. Two theme-entry prizes per week: $100 and $50 Shutterfly gift cards. Participants must be 18 or older and may submit up to five photos per theme-entry period. Veterans who need legal advice or legal assistance can visit a free legal clinic staffed and sponsored by attorney members of the Bell County Bar Association in conjunction with the Veterans Legal Initiative, a coalition of local bar associations to provide pro bono legal services to U.S. veterans in 17 counties in Texas. The clinic will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at American Legion Post 573, 225 Cox Drive, Harker Heights. No appointment is necessary. Any veteran or spouse of a deceased veteran can receive advice and counsel from a volunteer attorney in any area of law. For more information, call Cindi Parker at (254) 213-7715.

Nature in Lights

Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area presents Nature in Lights XVI: A Holiday Tradition from 5:30 to 11 p.m. nightly. Drive through the park and enjoy more than 115 illuminated, animated light displays. Pick up your free fifth annual Nature in Lights Christmas ornament Monday through Wednesday evenings, while supplies last. Stop by Santa’s Village, featuring Cowboy Café, for hot chocolate, homemade cookies, seasonal crafts and a photo with Santa Thursday through Sunday until Dec. 9 and nightly Dec. 13-24. Hop on the tram at Santa’s Depot, located in the parking lot of the Marina Cove, for a special trail of lights not seen by vehicular traffic. Gate fees: cars, minivans and pickups, $5; limos, RVs and 15-passenger vans, $15; 24-passenger vans, $25; and 47-passenger vans or larger buses, $40. Call (254) 287-2523.

Day 1: On the ground in South Korea with Ironhorse soldiers

After 20 hours of travel, by plane and bus, I finally made it to Camp Casey, South Korea with the remainder of Fort Hood’s 1st Brigade Combat Team soldiers. For the next several days, I will be following the mission and daily lives of Ironhorse troopers as they begin a nine-month rotation in the land of the morning calm.
