One KPD officer killed, one wounded in overnight shootout

A blood-stained rug is shown outside an apartment at the Grandon Manor Apartments, in the 1600 block of Grandon Drive, in Killeen. Killeen police officers responded to a disturbance call at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, July 13 in the pool area at the apartments. When officers arrived, they saw the man was carrying a rifle, and the KPD SWAT team was sent to the scene. The gunman then opened fire on the officers with an AK47, injuring two of them. One of them was pronounced dead at 1:27 a.m. Sunday and the other is listed in stable condition. The assailant was shot and killed by police during the shootout.
