BLORA Water Fest

As temperatures rise and families spend more time outdoors, Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area is preparing to kick off the summer season with its annual two-day Water Fest.

Wilson Mathews III, public relations coordinator for Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, said the event is the lake’s official opening for the summer.

“I would encourage families to go because it’s a great opportunity to get together and kick off the summer and outdoor season,” Mathews said. “It’s a family event.”

The event is $6 per vehicle per day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Water activities include wars using a water balloon slingshot, a 21-foot Slip-n-Slide, a kayak pool, paddle boat rides, swimming, a kids’ wash, a drowned rat race and more.

For those wishing to stay dry, the event offers inflatables, horseback riding, mountain bike trails and hiking, as well as pony rides and a petting zoo.

Last year, an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 people attended the annual event, aimed at letting residents know the different waterfront activities available at the lake during the summer. BLORA also features hundreds of covered and uncovered picnic areas, as well as dozens of barbecue grills throughout the park.
