Leah Powell had 11 kills, 15 digs and four aces, and the 23rd-ranked Copperas Cove volleyball team swept Shoemaker on Friday to maintain a one-game lead over Waco Midway at the midpoint of the District 8-6A season.

The Lady Dawgs won 25-10, 25-12, 25-8.

Talia Kinslow, Aidan Chace and Janice Fa’aola added seven kills each for Cove (31-8, 6-0 8-6A). Jada Close and Christina Pettigrew each had five kills.

Chace and Ash each had 21 assists to lead the Lady Dawgs. Pettigrew led Cove with four blocks.

Harker Heights volleyballers swept at Waco Midway

A challenging week for the Harker Heights volleyball team ended Friday with a 25-16, 25-16, 25-13 loss at Waco Midway.

Samantha Dreibelbis had six kills for the Lady Knights, who had road trips during the week against District 8-6A’s top two teams.  

Sorcha Dunn led Heights (1-5 8-6A) with three blocks. Other leaders were Valeria Cosme (nine digs), Selecia Field (11 assists) and Haley Brown (two aces.)

The Lady Knights have a bye in 8-6A play Tuesday but will host Georgetown East View at 7 p.m. for Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
