A new job for Elizabeth Turner marks a new time of her life.

Turner joined the Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce a few weeks ago as a new business development employee.

“I got married in March and moved out here about a month ago,” Turner said.

Originally from Cypress, she graduated from Texas Tech University in 2008 with dual degrees in finance and economics. In 2010, she received a master’s in financial planning.

Turner worked in Dallas as a financial planner for BBVA Compass prior to coming to Harker Heights.

After marrying her husband Jake, who is a troop commander with 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Turner moved to the Harker Heights area in June.

With her new job at the chamber, Turner said the hours and proximity make it easier for her to learn about the military lifestyle.

“One of my own personal goals it to get more familiarized with the Army,” she said.

As for her duties with the chamber, Turner will work to help bring in new business to the area.

Her first day was attending a military function, the second was a ribbon-cutting and last weekend she attended a golf tournament.

“I drive around now, and if I were just back in a finance job I probably wouldn’t notice things that I notice now when they talk about a company,” Turner said.

Coming to the area from Dallas, Turner said she’s impressed with what it has to offer and would like to target businesses with ideas that come from Dallas.

At the same time, she said she likes the calm pace of the area.

“I like being close to the lakes,” she said. “I like being outside and enjoying what the area has to offer.”
