The Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce invites local golfers to take their swings, have fun and relax at the annual chamber golf tournament June 29.

Set to tee off at 8:15 a.m., at The Courses of Clear Creek at Fort Hood, the 19th annual tournament will raise funds for the city of Harker Heights and provide a competitive outing for area golfers.

“We always have a good time,” chamber president Bill Kozlik said. “It is the largest fundraiser we have … our mission is to raise between $20,000 and $25,000.”

Tournaments in past years have reached, and even exceeded, monetary benchmarks.

“Last year our goal was $20,000,” said Gina Pence, chamber membership director. “But we ended up raising $25,000. This tournament is very valuable for the community.”

Coordinators hope the success of last year’s tournament will carry into this year.

“We felt good about last year’s turnout but we would really like to maintain or surpass that this year,” Pence said. “We average about 30 teams of four, with around 30 volunteers, but we would like to see more members of the community out on the course this time.”

The entry fee is $85 a person or $340 for a team of four. Hole sponsorships are also available for $125. The entry fee includes a T-shirt, green fees, a half cart, lunch and drinks and chances to win prizes. Golfers can register through June 26.
