Most weekends, eager music lovers fill the wood-plank floors in front of a large stage at Whiskey Creek in Harker Heights, waiting on the latest country artist to hit the stage.
Last Friday, it was Top 20 Texas Country artist Bart Crow.
With his latest release “Dandelion,” Crow and his band have toured nonstop since January. This was the band’s first time in the Harker Heights area, but not the first time in Central Texas. They have performed at the Schoepf’s Texas Music Series in Belton the past three years.
“Every time we perform, the audience is getting the finished product of all the hard work of my writing and the awesome music from our band coming together ... the time, effort and hard work we put into each song,” Crow said.
One couple, Pat and Marsha Reilly, drove from China Spring to hear the Maypearl native perform.
“My wife introduced me to Bart Crow and his band three years ago, and I became an instant fan,” Pat Reilly said. “My wife actually was the one who told me about tonight’s show.”
Diana Abrams of Killeen listened to Crow perform for the first time Friday.
“I was here to really just have a drink with friends,” she said. “But listening to him tonight ... he almost has the vocal sound of Tom Petty.”
Another patron, Oscar Davis, agreed.
“You can hear a little of Petty in Crow’s voice and with the band’s melodies, I enjoyed myself.”
Crow said he was honored to be compared to Petty.
“I am a huge fan of his.”
