Jina Boydstun was the guest of honor Monday night at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen.
The restaurant unveiled its new menu and Boydstun’s winning sweet potato casserole, which took top honors in a local sidedish recipe contest, was featured with her name printed beside it.
“It’s really starting to sink in now,” she said of seeing her name on the menu for the first time. “It’s really neat to see my name on a menu, and the response I’ve gotten from my friends has been unbelievable.”
David Robertson, general manager of the Heights restaurant, said the kitchen dished out more than 70 orders of Boydstun’s winning recipe on the first day of service.
“It’s been flying out of the kitchen,” Robertson said. “The kitchen can’t make it fast enough, and our diners have expressed how much they like it and that they want it to become a permanent item.”
To show their appreciation, Robertson presented Boydstun with a $250 gift certificate and treated Boydstun and seven friends to dinner.
“I’m so excited for her,” said Jana Secrest of Temple. “I have always known she was a fabulous cook because she would always spoil us with her cooking in the office.”
Diane Cline, a Heights resident, was among the first customers to order the new sidedish.
“When I looked at the choices, it sounded good,” she said. “It was very good and had a very nice flavor. I would definitely order it again.”
Sara Hundley, brand director for Cheddar’s restaurant support center in Dallas, said the chain is rolling out another scratch kitchen and recipe contest in Sherman.
“We are more than pleased with how the contest was received,” she said. “Our goal was to bring the community together and cement our scratch-kitchen positioning.”
