Lots of imagination and a sense of discovery are the only tools kids need to enjoy the Bricks 4 Kidz classes at the Harker Heights Recreation Center.

“These classes allow kids to put their creativity to work building models and robots with Lego bricks,” said Nicole Broemer, recreation and events coordinator.

Session I will start Tuesday and go through Feb. 25.

The “Winter Fun” class from 4 to 5 p.m. will teach kids ages 5 to 13 to build models of popular winter activities, such as a snowplow, a snowmobile, a fast-moving luge and an old-fashioned horse and sleigh. The class costs $69.00.

The “Stop Motion Movie Animation” class from 5 to 6:30 p.m. is geared for older children ages 9 to 13.

“It’s a fun class where kids get to design a scene with bricks, film it and then move it in small increments, making a short animated film,” Broemer said.

At the end of the movie animation class, a premiere will be held for family and friends to watch the films. Each child gets a copy of his work. Cost for the animation class is $99.

Session II starts March 18 and features classes on space travel and robotics.

Registration for Session I classes ends today. Registration deadline for Session II classes is March 14.

All classes are limited to 20 students, so early registration is encouraged. Register online at activenet.active.com/harkerheightspr.com or at the Harker Heights Parks and Recreation Center, 300 Miller’s Crossing. Call Broemer at 254-953-5465 for more class information.
