The Canteen is hosting its second annual Toy and Motorcycle Fun Run on Saturday to benefit Santa Pals, the VFW National Home for Children and other local charities.
“We are trying to raise money for some great charities and to make sure needy families and kids have a great Christmas,” said Teresa Kurts, Canteen manager, adding that the event raised $5,000 last year. “Bring a new or gently used toy or donation for admission.”
The bar will open at 8 a.m. for coffee and donuts. C.J. the DJ performs at noon and Six Killer takes the stage from 6 to 10 p.m.
During the motorcycle fun run, bikers will make stops at Dave’s Sports Bar and Grill in Copperas Cove, Boondocks and The Pit Stop in Nolanville and the Twisted Wrench in Harker Heights. Interested participants can sign-up Saturday morning at the Canteen. Cost is $15 for singles and $20 for couples.
The first bike will be out at noon and the last bike is due in by 4 p.m.
Harker Heights Mayor Mike Aycock will draw the winner of the 1994 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200XL at 8 p.m.
“It’s a full day of fun, and we are going to be having a silent and live auction as well as raffling things off all day long,” Kurts said.
The event is the brainchild of Canteen owners Mike and Lynn Barber.
