With the start of school Monday, residents are invited to pray for all who enter the school buildings this year, organizers of an annual prayer service said.

This year’s service starts at 5 p.m. Sunday at Harker Heights Trinity Baptist Church, 403 Knight’s Way, said Cecilia Fruik, ministry assistant.

Trinity Baptist Church has hosted the annual event for the past several years, but this year, several other area church congregations are invited to join, she said.

“This is but one way Harker Heights churches show our support and encourage students, faculties and staffs of local schools,” Fruik said. “We invite local educators from the district so that we may offer a word of encouragement and pray for them.”

Each year, the back-to-school prayer service and a short reception for Killeen Independent School District faculty, staff, parents and students is held.

In past years, the superintendent, school board members and teachers and staff from districts in Lampasas and Belton also attended, she said.

“All are invited to join this year,” Fruik said.
