Vicky Mitchell, 65, lives and works in Harker Heights.

Tell me about your family.

I have a wonderful husband of 45 years and two grown children and two in-laws. Corey Mitchell, 36, works with my husband as an architect draftsman, and Leeza Mitchell-Ochoa, 34, who is a nurse at Scott and White.

What brought you to the area?

I married a nonservice man and stayed in the area with him because he found a job here in 1972. I then started working on Fort Hood for 32 years at a company that is no longer here called Dentac. I was a dental technician there.

What do you like about Harker Heights?

I like that it is a nice community. I enjoy this area better than Killeen. I like that my home it is farther away from the bombing of Fort Hood, and it is a very quiet neighborhood. I think Harker Heights is one of the coolest cities ever.

What do you dislike about Harker Heights?

I dislike the traffic, but it is still better than living in Austin.

Where are you from originally?

I am originally from Great Bend, Kansas.

What community work do you do?

I consider all of my fitness classes as community work because it is my service to everyone that wants a better quality of life. I teach belly dance, called Troop Dance, at different places around the area. We perform a lot at the veterans home in Temple. Our next performances will be at the Rabbit Fest. We also perform at the local nursing homes in the area; they are so delightful.

What do you think that Harker Heights is missing?

Harker Heights is missing more job opportunities for both women and teenagers.

What jobs do you do?

On Wednesday and Friday, I work at Gold’s Gym as an aquatics instructor. On Tuesday and Thursday, I work at the YMCA as Fit For Life Instructor. On Tuesday and Thursday nights, I teach belly dancing at the Harker Heights Recreation Center; I teach beginners and dance troop. On Saturday mornings, I teach at my home studio, Traditional Style beginners belly dance class, and on Wednesday nights, I teach Belly Dance Tribal Grooves at YMCA in Harker Heights.

What was the last book that you read?

The last book that I read was called “Forgiveness” by Matthew West.

What was the last movie that you saw?

The last movie that I saw was “Fast and Furious, The Fate of the Furious.” I love cars.

What is your favorite food?

My favorite food is vegetables.

What is your best health advice?

Eat healthy, watch your fat intake and for heaven’s sake, drink plenty of water!
