Ilva Smith

Ilva Smith, 43, lives in Harker Heights and works as a Mary Kay consultant, makeup artist and interior decorator.

Where are you from originally?

I am originally from Puerto Rico and I was raised in New York.

Are you married?

Yes, I am married to a wonderful man named Shannon Smith.

How long have you been married?

We have been married for nine wonderful years.

Where did you get married?

We got married at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Tell me about your family.

We have a blended family, we are the modern-day Brady Bunch. I have three beautiful daughters, ages 24,17 and 11, and he has three handsome sons, ages 12, 14, and 16. In all, we have six children in our home.

What brought you to the area?

My husband is in the military and that is what brought us to the area. Our first time here was in 2009 then we PCS’d in 2012 and came back last year in 2016.

What do you like about Harker Heights?

I like that it is a quiet and nice area. I like the community and the great events that they have that bring people together.

What do you dislike about Harker Heights?

I honestly don’t have anything that I dislike.

What is your favorite restaurant in Harker Heights?

My favorite restaurant in Harker Heights is Genghis Grill.

What is your favorite place to shop at in Harker Heights?

My favorite place to shop at in Harker Heights is Kirkland’s and Barnes & Noble.

If you could bring something new to Harker Heights, what would it be?

I would bring a bigger tree-lighting ceremony than what we already have. I really love Christmas.

What community work do you do?

I do Make Up Your Mind; it is a mentorship for teenagers in high school. We discuss self-image, how to get ready for an interview and things like that.

I volunteer at my church, Destiny World Outreach Center, and I help out at the animal shelter.

I go live on Facebook every Thursday and discuss topics like self-care, activities in the area, fears, relationships and other important things that are going on in the world. We also do Bible study live on Facebook. If you’d like to join us, go to Ilva&Celesta on Facebook.

What is your favorite dish to make?

I love to bake; my favorite dish to make would be cheesecake.

What is your favorite color and why?

My favorite color is pink and red. Pink is a nice and calm color. Red was my mom’s favorite color and to me it means power and confidence.

What was the last movie that you saw?

The last movie that I saw was “Girls Trip.”

What was the last book that you read?

I am currently reading “A Woman Who Doesn’t Quit,” by Nicki Koziarz.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years, I see myself as a national sales director with Mary Kay. Ilva and Celesta will be well known and I will be a well-known makeup artist.
