Ashley Deno, 22, lives in Killeen and works at Heritage Park Fitness in Harker Heights as a marketing assistant.

Tell me about your family.

My parents moved from New Jersey to Copperas Cove shortly after I moved here because of “empty nest” syndrome. I live in Killeen with my sister, the new baby and her husband. I am the baby in the family. I have one older brother who lives in Florida and one who still lives in New Jersey.

Where are you from?

I am originally from New Jersey. I came here to Central Texas because my sister asked me to move here when she was pregnant to keep the family close. The baby is now 3 months old.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself working at a nonprofit organization or starting my own nonprofit organization.

What do you like about working in Harker Heights?

I like that this area is family-oriented. The area is very low key, more than Killeen, and reminds me of home.

What is the best advice that you were ever given?

Just be happy. There nothing that does not have a solution, except death.

Do you do any community work?

I plan on being involved in Court Appointed Special Advocates. I am currently working on the application for CASA at this time. CASA is an organization that helps children in the foster care system on a volunteer basis. I plan on being a foster parent one day and/or adopt my own children.

What do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy working with people. I am so excited about being in Central Texas and meeting all kinds of new and different people. If I could give everyone out there some advice it would be: Don’t be afraid to be kind to people and good things will come.
