Mother-to-be wants to be makeup artist

Posted

Vaniqua Woodley, 21, lives in Harker Heights and works at the Violet clothing store in Market Heights. She also owns a small makeup business called Envee Makeup Artistry and attends Vista College.

What do you enjoy about living and working in Harker Heights?

I like the environment; it is a lot slower than Killeen. I truly enjoy the ranch-style home where I live, and I enjoy the quiet.

What do you do at Violet?

I work on visuals (manikins and displays). I also market any new merchandise. I love this job because I get to be creative with the clothing and set trends.

Tell me about your family.

I have one child on the way — a baby girl. She will make her debut June 19. My dad is retired military. I am an Army brat. My mom works at the airport in Killeen and I have two younger sisters. We are a very Christian family. My family is very loving and we have big hearts. We have two cats that I absolutely adore. Family is very important to me.

What community organizations or volunteer work do you do?

I do free makeovers and photo shoots for model calls when needed. I volunteer at my church, Grace Christian Center. I work with the youth at the Kids Action Studio. The kids are in kindergarten through fifth grade.

What do you want to do when you graduate from college?

I hope to become a aesthetician and be a professional makeup artist one day. I have freelanced since 2011 as a makeup artist.

What experience made you a stronger person?

Becoming a mom. When I found out that I was pregnant it made me more motivated to get my career started. It’s just something about knowing you are now responsible for someone else that makes your drive to do things come alive even more.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

The right time is God’s time. This advice was given to me by my grandmother before she passed.
