Area residents with a knack for flavor and culinary creativity can enter their most delicious homemade side dishes for a chance to have it featured on Cheddar’s “Scratch Kitchen” menu in Harker Heights.
In an effort to figure out what diners want to see on their menu, Cheddar’s officials decided the best way to get answers is to ask the source directly.
“We like the idea of expanding our idea base and not every good idea comes from one of us,” said Robert Pesch, Cheddar’s director of culinary. “Since we are a from-scratch kitchen, with 95 percent of our items being made daily in house, we can execute anything that comes our way without a problem.”
Pesch said he wants entrants to think “outside of the box” and to submit good, made from scratch, foods.
“It doesn’t have to be complicated, covered in cheese or super gourmet,” he said. “Our most successful and popular dishes are often the most simple and straight forward. We want something that screams homemade and for it to be something our diners will want to come back for.”
Entries are due by Jan. 27 and the winner will be announced in February.
The winning dish will be featured on the menu for six weeks with the contestant’s name printed next to it. The winner will also receive a $250 Cheddar’s gift card.
“So far we have about 75 entries,” said David Robertson, general manager of the Heights restaurant. “The contest has generated quite a bit of buzz around here. We look forward to getting the community involved to enhance our menu.”

Dishes must be the entrant’s original creation and may not include copyrighted, trademarked, patented, or previously published material. Photos of entries should only display the dish or meal created; individuals should not be shown in photos. Entries requiring license or usage rights from any third party is not eligible.
