Sixteen members of the Harker Heights Satellite Rotary Club personally delivered more than 150 pairs of socks and blankets to residents of the Indian Oaks Living Center on Dec. 20.

The husband and wife team of Josh and Jennifer McCann said the blanket delivery has been ongoing for the past three years.

“One of our members, April Cloud, began doing this on her own; then we decided to pick it up as a club project,” the McCanns said.

Josh McCann said, “We began by giving out about 70 blankets the first year, and as the project has grown, there was one year we delivered 300 to Indian Oaks in Heights, Rosewood Retirement Center in Killeen and Meals on Wheels in Copperas Cove.”

Jennifer McCann said, “People drop off donations of socks and blankets from two to five at a time. We post this project on social media and people respond with a giving spirit.”

“We just added the socks this year and hope that we collect enough next year that we can provide a pair for at least every resident in at least one of the locations.”

Lauren Hallmark said, “I definitely like to be here because it’s a lot of fun, especially seeing the smiling faces of the residents.”

Club member Brenda Kitchenmaster of Copperas Cove said, “Words can’t describe giving back to folks who may not have much of anything this time of year. I enjoy being at the forefront and involved in the Rotary Satellite Club when what we’re doing benefits others.”
