Tell me about your family.

I have two wonderful parents, my mother is Olma and my father is Khaled. I have two siblings, my brother MK and my sister Nada.

Where are you from originally?

I am originally from Cairo, Egypt.

What brought you to the area?

My family wanted more education opportunities for my siblings and I. My mother’s brother already lived here so we wanted to make sure when we came to America we would come to a place were we already had family and people that we trusted. My uncle was here because he is in the military. My grandparents on my mother’s side live here also. We moved here in August 2006 and I became a dual citizen in 2012. I am now Egyptian-American.

What is the last book that you read?

The last book that I read was “I Sing the Body Electric!,” it is a collection of short science fiction stories by Ray Bradbury. He is the same author that wrote “Fahrenheit 451.”

What was the last movie that you saw?

The last movie that I saw was “Guardians of the Galaxy,” the second one.

What do you like about Harker Heights?

I like that it is diverse considering that it is so close to the military town. I have met people from all walks of life and that is very interesting.

What do you dislike about Harker Heights?

I dislike that there isn’t very much for the youth to do around here. You have to travel to places like Austin and Houston for activities. However it is not as bad as most places that I have seen. Its alright.

What community work do you do?

I am the secretary of the National Honor Society at Harker Heights High. I organize events. I am a part of the Student Council, Texas Bio Science Institute (TBI). ... I do volunteer work with all of these organizations.

What is your favorite restaurant in Harker Heights?

My favorite restaurant in Harker Heights is Shogun. I love sushi and they serve pretty good Sushi for being not close to large bodies of water.

Where is your favorite place to shop at in Harker Heights?

My favorite place to shop at in Harker Heights is Kirkland’s. I am not a fan of shopping I usually just browse without any attempt to buying. I like how Kirkland’s smells.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I hope to see myself having a steady job and being happy, that is all I want.

If you could change anything about your life what would it be and why?

I would go into a different dimension just to see how it would be like there, however, only for a moment. I want to be able to change back if I don’t like it in the other dimension.

What advice would you give your younger self?

I would tell my younger self to not take family for granted and to spend more time with them.

What do you think that Harker Heights is missing?

I think that Harker Heights needs a Cane’s. I really like that chicken place and driving all the way to Temple or Cove is just too far for some chicken, so Harker Heights needs one.

What awards and achievements have you had recently?

I have been a gymnast for the past 10 years. I qualified for state last year in my first year in debate. I am the historian in my junior class at Harker Heights High. I am also a proud mom of a tabby cat named Charlemagne.
