Why did you go into this profession?

I was about to retire out of the military, and I told my wife I was going to go overseas to do mechanic work. She said, “No, you have to stay home and raise your teenage sons.” My training in the Army was teaching and instructing so I came up with the driving school.

What is one of your greatest joys in life?

One of my biggest joys for the past five years is teaching senior citizens how to do the waltz. I volunteer at the Lions Park Senior Center, teaching the seniors aerobics, Zumba and line dance.

Where are you from originally?

I am from Charleston, S.C. I attended Charles Allen Brown High School.

Tell me about your family.

I am married to Gwendolyn Simmons, who is also retired from Fort Hood, She currently works as a computer programmer at Fort Hood. I have two boys; one of them is deceased. My 25-year-old son is going to school to be a fashion designer. My other son passed away four years ago; he would have been 31 this year. I have one 8-year-old granddaughter. She can’t drive.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself as the most proud person to ever participate in Bell County.
