Members of the Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce Vision XXI 2014 leadership class are gearing up to hold a Life Enrichment Fair and fundraiser to benefit graduating Harker Heights seniors enrolled in the school district’s Homeless Awareness and Response Program.

The fair, part of the class project, is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Heights Activities Center, 400 Indian Trail.

It’s free and open to the public.

The fair will feature guest speakers who will provide 20-minute workshops about financial management, resume writing, dressing for success and human resources.

In addition, there will be free immunizations for qualified children provided by Metroplex Health Systems, vision screenings provided by Southern Eye Specialists, $20 sports physicals provided by Wellstone Health Partners and free skin analysis provided by Mothers Teach Your Daughters.

“Vision XXI 2014’s project mission is to make a difference in our community by creating a college scholarship for HARP graduate(s) and sponsoring a Life Enrichment Fair to provide the community with tools for tomorrow,” said Chaplain Jennifer Cobb, director of chaplaincy and pastoral care at Seton Medical Center Harker Heights and a Vision XXI class member.

In addition to the fair, the leadership class is hosting a fundraiser to benefit the HARP program. Tickets are $5 each or six for $20 and are available at the Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce by calling 254-699-4999 or from Vision XXI Class 2014 members.

“The prize donations in this book will allow a person to take a nice vacation without having to leave town,” said Raye Mayhorn, Vision XXI class member and brainchild behind the book.

The winner of the grand prize “Staycation Book,” will take home a $500 gift certificate from Glamour Shots in the Killeen Mall, a one-night stay at the Residence Inn by Marriott, a manicure and pedicure from Nails by Mina in Harker Heights, two, $25 gift certificates from Truly Texas in Killeen, a $100 gift certificate from Pier 1 Imports, wine tasting and tour for four at the Messina Hof in Bryan-College Station, a $20 gift certificate from the Taqueria Mexico in Heights, a $25 gift card from Darden Restaurants and a one-night stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in Killeen.

The winner will be announced during the fair at 2 p.m. Aug. 9. “We invite the community and families of Central Texas to come out and enjoy, share and participate,” said Anna D. Rinehart, a member of the publicity committee.
