Toy and goods drive Saturday

The Faded Spades Motorcycle Club is having its first “Toy and Goods” drive for Families in Crisis Inc., a battered women’s and children’s shelter, from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion Post 573, 225 E. Cox Drive. Items needed are, but not limited to, toys of any type for boys and girls ages 1 to 17; diapers sizes one through five, baby wipes, bathroom toiletries and hygiene items, new and used clothes for the children and their mothers, and kitchen items like dishes, pots, pans, appliances and utensils.

Ornament workshop at museum

Gather the kids and bring them to the Bell County Museum for the annual free holiday ornament workshop from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Enjoy hot cider and cookies while making two ornaments — a Christmas dream catcher and a snowy Christmas scene. Call 254-933-5243.

Creative gift wrapping at library

The Stewart C. Meyer Harker Heights Library will offer a free class on gift wrapping from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Gifts must be boxed and ready to be wrapped. Materials will be provided.

Museum offers unique gift items

Looking for unique gifts for under the tree? Stop by the Bell County Museum Store from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. The store features plush toys such as bison, longhorn and armadillos, and CDs related to the American West, the Civil War and more. Gift givers also can purchase pioneer toys and crafts, paper dolls and books. Also featured are historic church replica ornaments. Call 254-933-5243.

Some trash services delayed next week

City offices will be closed Wednesday for Christmas and regular garbage collection will be delayed one day at the end of next week, according to Harker Heights officials.

Normal Wednesday routes will be collected on Thursday, and the normal Friday routes will be collected on Saturday.

All normally scheduled Saturday routes will remain unchanged and be collected on Saturday.

Routes will be delayed the following week for New Year’s, with normal Wednesday pickup on Jan. 2 and normal Friday and Saturday pickup on Jan. 4.

Normal schedules resume Jan. 6.
