More than 50 teens attended the fourth annual Teen Holiday Bash at the Stewart C. Meyer Harker Heights Library on Dec. 20.

The party coincided with the Killeen school district’s early release day and kick-started holiday vacation.

“They get out early and a lot of them are here until they leave at their regular time at 6 p.m.,” said library organizer Rose Ramon. “We decided to do something special for them. Not only do we have a Christmas Holiday Bash, we also do an end-of-the school year (party) as well.”

The festivities included a screening of “The Grinch that Stole Christmas” starring Jim Carrey, a remake of the 1957 Dr. Seuss classic. Other activities included arts and crafts and card games, and refreshments were provided.

“It was fun; I ate a lot of food. It was pretty cool to hang out with my friends before we all leave for Christmas vacation,” said Davion Miller, an eighth-grader at Eastern Hills Middle School.

This year, 53 students from local middle and high-schools attended the event. According to Ramon, a great percentage of the attendees came from Eastern Hills Middle School next door.

“Pretty fun, lots of food and drinks and card games,” said Demond Ervin, also an eighth-grader at Eastern Hills. “I actually enjoyed myself.”

“The feedback has been positive on both sides. The parents love it because many of them get stuck at work with the early outs,” Ramon said. “And the teens enjoy themselves as well, to relieve stress of what to do while waiting on their parents during early outs.”
