Sgt. Dave LaCroix, 51, works for the Nolanville Police Department and lives in Harker Heights. He said he loves helping people and keeping children safe.
How long have you lived in the area?
I’ve lived in Harker Heights for 24 years, and I’ve been with the Nolanville Police Department for five years.
What do you enjoy the most about the area?
It sounds corny, but the people of Central Texas are the friendliest, nicest and most open to deal with.
Describe your job.
I’m patrol sergeant. I supervise all patrol officers — we have 12 to 17 — and I’m assistant trainer of new officers.
What is your favorite hobby?
Flying. I’m a licensed pilot.
Are you involved in any community activities or clubs?
I belong to the Elks Lodge in Temple and I’m a member of the Central Texas Flying Club, Wings Over Texas.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Retired, but I’ll find some slot where I can teach kids.
If you could change one thing in your life, what would it be and why?
I would work less and spend more time with my family.
What is your favorite song or music?
I don’t have one. I like all genres of music.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
I firmly believe that history repeats itself. I read a lot and love to read President Teddy Roosevelt’s quotes about kids. He said, “If kids don’t have a place to play, they’ll get in trouble.”
What is the best thing about getting older?
Everything starts to make sense. You understand the rules of life are what they are.
