Dynisha Woods has worked a wide variety of jobs in her young life.

Since graduating from the University of Texas Health Science Center in 2006, the 33-year-old has served as a health science teacher and as a neonatal care nurse for Scott & White Healthcare.

She is also an Army wife whose husband is deployed.

Last year, Woods became the owner of Scrubtopia Medical Outfitters in Harker Heights.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to own my own business,” Woods said. “I used to research on what exactly I wanted to do, own a franchise, or start something on my own. After nursing in the area, I ultimately found what I wanted to venture into, something the area needed badly from a medical worker’s standpoint, a medical outfitters store.”

Woods felt Scrubtopia would be a wise business venture in Bell County, which boasts four hospitals and several clinics. The store opened in May 2012.

“With all of the clinics, hospital staff, dental care, vets’ offices, and college nursing students in the area, a scrub and medical outfitter was really needed in Harker Heights,” Woods said. “What I’ve been surprised to see since opening though are how many different people from all strokes of life who get their scrubs from us - pre-kindergarten teachers, day care, and just regular people who like wearing scrubs. They are very comfortable.”

Woods stocks scrubs in a diverse array of sizes and styles.

“I saw a need for a scrub store in the area because I myself am a tall women and I find it hard finding medical attire that properly fits me,” Woods said.

“We try and stock many different sizes for tall, bigger, or even expecting mothers. We also get a variety of styles for the scrub divas out there, the people who have to have the latest and greatest to try and look a little different than their coworkers.”

The Killeen High School graduate alternates between business owner and part-time nurse. When she isn’t running the store, Woods places her trust in her manager and favorite employee, her mother Rose Hastings.

“I love my role at Scrubtopia,” Hastings said. “The hours and meeting new people are great, but working with my daughter has been wonderful. I am very happy that I can be a part of her dream.”

Scrubtopia Medical Outfitters is at 108 E. Farm-to-Market 2410, Harker Heights.
