The Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce is hosting the fifth annual Central Texas Food, Wine and Brew Festival on Sept. 14 at Harker Heights Community Park.

“It’s all coming together wonderfully this year,” said Chamber President Bill Kozlik. “Volunteers and sponsors have gone out of their way to make sure it’s a success.”

Admission is $25 in advance through the chamber’s website, www.hhchamber.com, and $30 the day of the festival.

Fun for the entire family begins at 7:30 a.m. with a community 5k Stompede followed by a free kids run at 9 a.m. for children 11 and younger.

The 5k run is sponsored by John Reider Properties. Sam’s Club is also a festival sponsor.

This year, the 5k will add team running, with area businesses vying for the grand prize.

The festival will run from 3 to 9 p.m. Raised funds will go to projects determined by Harker Heights Parks and Recreation.

“Every minute is filled with something to do and experience,” said Membership Director Gina Pence.

The event will boast a barbecue brisket cook-off, a Fuddrucker’s one-pound hamburger eating contest, a Central Texas College culinary salsa cook-off, live bands playing throughout the night.

Festival chair Jennifer McCann said the huge event is growing. “Every year we have doubled in size and (we are) expecting nearly 3,000 (people) this year,” Pence said. “Instead of it being just a little Harker Heights event, it’s actually becoming a Central Texas festival.”

Community Park is at 1501 E. Farm-to-Market 2410. Call the chamber at 254-699-4999 or go to www.hhfoodandwine.com for more information.
