New Fort Hood commander set to arrive on post by Dec. 20
Maj. Gen. Mark Milley will take command of III Corps and Fort Hood during a Dec. 20 ceremony on post.
Milley relinquished command of 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum, N.Y., to Maj. Gen. Stephen J. Townsend on Monday — the same day Congress confirmed his nomination to command the “Great Place” and receive a third star.
Milley replaces Lt. Gen. Donald M. Campbell Jr., who left Fort Hood last week.
New judge named in Hasan case
The U.S. Army named a new judge for the upcoming court-martial of accused Fort Hood shooter Maj. Nidal Hasan.
An Army spokesman confirmed Tuesday night that Col. Tara Osborn was named to the case. Osborn is the chief circuit judge of the Army’s Second Judicial District.
The appointment comes one day after the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces ousted Fort Hood judge Col. Gregory Gross from the case and vacated his order to have Hasan forcibly shaved.
The move could signal that proceedings in the case may begin moving forward. However, an Army spokesman was unable to provide any time line as to when Osborn would arrive on post to begin hearings in the case.
