A clothes closet at Trinity Baptist Church in Harker Heights has served a dozen families and more than 30 children since it was established in September, according to the church.

The closet, located inside the main church building at 402 E. Farm-to-Market 2410, is available to all families in the area, not just church members. Clothes are distributed through scheduled disbursements, two of which were held in December and January.

“No date has been set yet for the next disbursement, though plans are in the works,” said Shirah Violegas, pastor assistant.

The outreach ministry was conceived by church member Cecelia Fruik, who presented the idea to Pastor David Morgan last year. The congregation donated clothes for the closet, and soon, the idea became a reality.

Fruik originally advertised the closet on the Army Wives page of the Fort Hood Herald, but now a sign-up sheet is kept at Harker Heights Elementary School for families who need the service.

The closet stocks new underwear and gently-used baby clothes and children’s clothing up to size 14, according to the church.

Call Trinity Baptist Church at (254) 699-0529 to make a donation or for information about upcoming disbursements.
