BELTON — There’s never a dull moment — or a shortage of fellowship and laughter — at the Belton Senior Activity Center. From movies and card games to line dancing, sewing and quilting, the senior center has it all.

On a recent Tuesday, 14 members gathered at the center for Movie Day, while others played cards and worked on sewing and quilting projects.

Before the movie started, Wanda Polk and Eva Bright chatted about their lives. Polk, a Mason City native, moved to Belton when her husband accepted a job transfer 43 years ago.

“I’ve been coming here for four years,” she said. “All this is just a wonderful place.”

Bright, a native of Munich, Germany, has lived in the United States for more than 60 years. When she first arrived in New York, she stayed with an uncle and aunt and worked as a nanny for four years until she married her husband, whom she met during his Air Force duty assignment in Munich.

Most of the movie patrons laughed throughout the screening of “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” a comedy about a group of British retirees who decide to outsource their retirement to India. But Doris Graham, 90, was an exception.

“I couldn’t understand a whole lot of what was being said,” Graham said, referring to the British accents of the actors.

The Belton Senior Activity Center is at 842 S. Mitchell St., Belton.

For more information about events at the center, call Patsy Cofer, activities director, at (254) 939-1170.
