Isabella Softy has participated in the Harker Heights Parks and Recreation Camp Heights program the last two years and is ready to enjoy the summer fun again.

On Tuesday, she was already registered for upcoming camp activities.

“I am looking forward to being in the gym and playing around,” she said.

Camp sessions for children ages 5-11 begin Monday and run through Aug. 2 at Skipcha Elementary School.

About 25 kids attend the camp every week, according to the city.

“It’s awesome,” Isabella said. “I like gardening along with the rest of the fun activities, like dodgeball.”

Her mother, Mari, said the camp is educational as well as fun.

“It teaches them ... they are able to do fun things, make crafts, visit the Chamber of Commerce, and do things that teach kids how to be a big part of the community,” she said.

Along with board games and sports, campers will also go on several field trips to go skating and bowling and to visit the planetarium, the movie theater and Chuck E. Cheese’s, said Nichole Broemer, recreation and events coordinator.

“We have different kids that come throughout the summer,” she said. “We do a lot of the games indoor and outdoor.”
