Three Webelos were honored at an Arrow of Light and graduation/crossover ceremony Saturday at the Carl Levin Park amphitheater bridge in Harker Heights.

Brandon Casto crossed over to Scout Troop 287, Ethan Jutras crossed over to Scout Troop 234, and Robert Kachura crossed over to Troop 229.

The Arrow of Light is the highest honor awarded in Cub Scouts and the only award in Cub Scouting that can be worn on the Boy Scout uniform.

Scarlett Foster, leader of Webelos Pack 255-Den 11, said the scouts started at the Wolf level then moved through the Tiger and Bear levels and the Webelos to achieve the honor.

“Webelos means ‘We be loyal scouts,’” Foster said.

The ceremony was modeled after the Native American traditions. Dressed in Native American costumes were Kevin Casey, chief of the ceremony, Tanner Casey, guide, and Garrett Casey, medicine man. All three are members of Scout Troop 234.

Scoutmaster Robert Justras’ son was honored at the ceremony.

“This puts strong emphasis on the Boy Scout troops in our city and opens up great opportunities, friendships and enjoyment,” he said.

A group of about 30 family members, scouts, scoutmasters and friends attended the ceremony.
