The Parks and Recreation Department invites local amateur photographers of all ages to dust off their cameras and share their best original photos for the second annual “Sights in Heights” photography contest.
The contest kicks off Tuesday and runs through the end of April. All photos submitted have the possibility of being used in parks and recreation publications and promotions, along with photographer acknowledgement, when feasible.
“The goal of this contest is to get people out to our parks and recreation programs to showcase the best of what the Harker Heights Parks and Recreation Department has to offer,” said Sarah Mylcraine, activities specialist. “We want you to bring your camera and get creative as you are enjoying Harker Heights parks and activities to capture the fun and memories of why you love the Parks and Recreation Department’s programs.”
Mylcraine said all photos will be on display May 1-10 for public voting at the Activities Center.
The winner of each age division will receive an engraved frame for their winning photo and will be featured in the Spring 2015 Recreation Guide. There are three age divisions for the contest: 14 and younger; 15 to 24; and 25 and older. There is no fee to enter, and participants can enter up to three photos.
The photos must be taken at a Harker Heights Parks and Recreation facility, event, sport, program, class or one of the many city parks. All winning photographs will be displayed on the Parks and Recreation website.
Participants can send their entries via mail to Harker Heights Parks and Recreation Department, Attn: Activities Center, 400 Indian Trail, Harker Heights, TX 76548 or in person at the Activities Center between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. All photos and required forms must be submitted to the Activities Center by 4 p.m. April 30.
An entry packet can be picked up at the Activities Center, the Recreation Center, 307 Miller’s Crossing, or at www.ci.harker-heights.tx.us/parks.
