Driver safety course free to veterans

The Belton Senior Activity Center will sponsor an AARP Driver Safety Program from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the center, 842 S. Mitchell St., Belton.

The class is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.

However, in November the class is free to veterans, active-duty veterans and widows of veterans age 50 and up.

Attendees should arrive at 11:30 a.m. and bring their AARP membership card and driver’s license to complete paperwork for the class.

Veterans will also need to provide proof of their veteran or active-duty status.

Class space is limited to 25 people.

City offices close for Thanksgiving

The Harker Heights City Hall, Recreation Center and Activities Center will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Retired Lt. Gen. Dave Palmer, author and former superintendent of West Point, will sign his latest book “George Washington’s Military Genius” at 1 p.m. Dec. 1 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Market Heights, 201 E. Central Texas Expressway, Harker Heights.
